Surprise

Some of you know that my family and I spent the week in Disney World last week (and if you didn’t know – now you do).  My husband, Chris and I took my two boys on a surprise trip down there this past Tuesday.  My 14 year old step son opted to stay home while we went with the little ones, which we were totally ok with.  He’s at that age where he doesn’t want to be seen with us (ugh, teenagers), so we let him off the hook – this time.

Our day started at 3 am last Tuesday when I woke up the boys for a mystery trip.   I don’t think the kids realized they were up so early.  We (the kids and I) had talked the night before about going to Roger Williams Zoo in Providence that day since it was a Professional Day at school and the kids were off anyways.  So when we drove down to Rhode Island towards the airport, it didn’t seem fishy.  We flew out of Providence, which is typical for us.  It’s much easier to get to than Logan in Boston!  The kids didn’t catch on that we were going anywhere….until we arrived at the airport.

We grabbed our bags once we parked the car and my seven year old caught on by that point that we were going somewhere, but Chris and I wouldn’t tell him where we were heading.  My four year old is the type of kid that just goes with the flow, so he just rolled with it.  The four of us actually boarded the plane and flew all the way to Orlando before my seven year old figured it out.  It took us walking up to the Magical Express (the bus transportation from the airport to Disney World) for him to figure it out.  He asked me outright if we were going to Disney and I couldn’t lie, so I told him!

He was SO surprised and excited and all the work it took to keep it secret was so worth it when I saw the look on his face.  He said to me about a dozen times throughout the week that it was the best surprise!  It’s an amazing memory that he’s going to have with him for the rest of his life!  And if you’re curious about my little man – none of it even phased him.  He was excited to be there and had a great time, but he just rolled with the punches for the entire week!  What a trooper.
